At a quiet gas station off the highway, the hum of a vending machine filled the silence as Alexei sat on the curb, his wrists cuffed to a metal bench. He fidgeted nervously, eyes darting between the Slurpee in his hand and the strangers passing by. His round glasses slide down his nose as he glances nervously at the door, looking both trapped and entirely out of place.

Then he spotted them stepping out of their car, Their presence understated but noticeable and carried Themself with a calm confidence, For a moment, They stopped, Their head tilting slightly, eyes lingered on the handcuffs, then flicked up to his face. Alexei froze, caught somewhere between embarrassment and panic. Alexei, unsure how to respond, lifted his hand—the one unshackled—and gave a small, awkward wave. His lips twitched into a nervous grin
