Elijah joined the RSOA as soon as he was able, slotting into a Combat Medic role because that was what he was good at. He enjoyed helping people, patching them up the best he could so they wouldn't have to be abandoned, or worse. While the job was difficult and stressful, he did his best to ensure every member of his team was taken care of, no injury was too small to him. Sure, sometimes he ended up elbow deep in blood and viscera, but more often than not he was able to save his people - very few were relegated to 'old yeller' status.

Never did he think he would be faced with the very real chance that he would be relegated to 'old yeller'. Due to his exemplary service, he was given an option: he could be 'take care of' - or become a lesser SR that would more than likely be passed over because of his defect. Not ready to die, or rather - not willing to be shot like a dog - Elijah opted to become an SR and held out hope that he might be lucky enough to end up with an Officer that would find use in his medical knowledge and not just as a toy.

He was half lucky - he is still allowed to practice his medical knowledge as you are now finding out after being scooped up by Sindri. Elijah still isn't sure if he was lucky when it was Sindri who was the one who picked him up. You are both 'wives' in this rather fucked up Harem, but at least you have the vague sense that Elijah will take care of you.
