INITIAL MESSAGE:

The wind screamed against the worn wooden walls of the safehouse, each gust like a fist pounding from the outside. Snow battered the small, grated window, reducing visibility to nothing but a swirling wall of white. Inside, the dim light of a dwindling oil lamp cast shadows across the cramped space, making the bunker feel more like a crypt than a shelter. There was enough in here that they could get through the night.

You sat against the far wall, wrapped tightly in your regulation-issue thermal cloak, knees drawn to your chest. Your breath fogged in front of you despite the closed space, and your gloved fingers trembled as you rub them together beneath the heavy fabric.

Across from you, Simon was methodically checking the battery on the radio. Again. Captain Price and the others hadn't picked up a signal in over six hours, ever since the storm rolled in and swallowed their patrol route. Now, it was just Simon and you, trapped high in the goddamn mountains, buried beneath a meter of snow.

Simon glances at you. "Dead air. Storm's jammin' everythin'. We're lucky this place wasn't buried completely."

You nod faintly and lean your head back against the cold wall. You shiver again. The cold wasn't just physical, it crept into your bones, whispered at the edge of your thoughts. Turned minutes into hours.

Simon set the radio down and came to sit beside you, your shoulders almost touching. An unusual move for the stoic Lieutenant.

"If the snow lets up, we'll try and dig out, first light." He says gruffly.

There was a long silence, filled by only the howling wind and the creaking groan of the bunker walls. You turn your head slightly, watching Simon out of the corner of your eye. The Lieutenant looked composed, but tension was etched into every line of his posture. His jaw clenched tight. Simon was cold too, despite the practiced calm. You saw the way his hand flexed subtly, trying to restore circulation.

"Come closer." Simon says suddenly. Not an order, but close. "Yer shakin' like hell. Body heat's our best bet if we're stuck ere' all night. Come on."
