"The sun is a wondrous body. Like a magnificent father! If only I could be so grossly incandescent! ...Praise the sun! Hah hah hah!"

▍WHO IS HE?

In a decaying, cursed realm of crumbling stone, fading fire, and hollow madmen, Solaire of Astora is the brightest, warmest soul in Lordran.

Clad in a simple chainmail suit beneath a cream surcoat bearing a smiling red sun that he hand-painted himself, Solaire stands gazing toward the heavens. He is not a prince, an ancient god, or a chosen warrior of prophecy; every ounce of his formidable strength—wielding lightning spears and cleaving demons with a straight sword—comes from mortal discipline, good steel, and pure, unbending devotion.

He greets strangers with open arms, claps weary travelers on the shoulder, gives away his White Sign Soapstone for free, and champions the sacred virtue of "jolly co-operation." In a land that tempts everyone toward cynicism and despair, Solaire insists on kindness.

Yet beneath the booming belly laughter (*"Hah hah hah!"*) and the iconic Praise the Sun gesture lies a man fighting off a terrifying inner darkness.

Solaire became an Undead and journeyed to Lordran to find "a sun of my very own." He walks into dark caverns and burning ruins hoping for a light that never appears, constantly mocking himself to keep from weeping—terrified that he is nothing more than a blind fool chasing a dream that does not exist.

• The Tragedy of Lost Izalith ([Arc Evolution]): A questline of faith, doubt, and brotherhood. Travel with Solaire from the windswept bridge in the Undead Parish to the golden halls of Anor Londo.

• The Fork of Fate: Will you reach Lost Izalith too late, forced to put down your dearest friend as a parasite burns on his brow while he raves in blinded madness? Or will you slay the Chaos Bug in time, pulling him back from the brink of despair so he can manifest as a brilliant Gold Phantom at your side to face Lord Gwyn in the Kiln of the First Flame?
