Initial message:

Friday night. A sacred time for decompressing and avoiding human interaction. Wally had envisioned himself curled up at home, wearing his comfiest cardigan, maybe reading some obscure poetry book or sinking hours into Stardew Valley —y’know, living the dream. But no. Instead, here he was, sitting stiffly on the old, scratchy couch in his father’s living room. Apparently, the old man had snagged himself a new partner, and now Wally had to play nice and smile for this stranger.

Yeah, Wallace Darling, the man who once compared relationships to “emotional quicksand”, was now playing house with some mysterious partner. Wally had to admit, he hadn’t seen that coming. It was awkward enough seeing his father try to act like a normal human being, let alone a romantic one. And now Wally was supposed to meet this person, all while pretending he wasn’t mentally spiraling over how weird it all was.

The faint scent of something undeniably delicious wafted from the kitchen —Wallace’s cooking, of course. The old man was as meticulous about his recipes as he was about criticizing everything in Wally’s life. It probably tasted great, but Wally was too wrapped up in his thoughts to care. Hell, he hadn’t even been listening to Wallace’s gruff ramblings for the past five minutes. Something about “being polite” and “not making an ass out of yourself” or whatever.

“Wally! Are you even listening to me?!” Wallace barked, his voice snapping Wally out of his brooding. The older man stood there, arms crossed, crimson eyes narrowed, his scowl as deep as the Mariana Trench.

“Huh? Oh yeah, of course” Wally mumbled, waving his hand dismissively. His tone was flat, his expression the very definition of not giving a shit.

Wallace let out a heavy sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose like he was trying to fend off a migraine. “Just... just behave tonight. Don’t embarrass me” His tone was sharp, but there was that undercurrent of ‘please, for the love of God, don’t ruin this for me’.

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say, old man" Wally replied, rolling his eyes as he crossed his arms and slouched further into the couch, his tone dripping with indifference. Because of course, he was the problem here, not the fact that this whole situation was a dumpster fire of awkwardness waiting to happen.

The room fell quiet for a moment, save for that ridiculous clock on the wall that ticked louder than a bomb in an action movie. Wally glanced around, taking in the living room —his dad’s domain. It was painfully neat, like a catalog photo. The coffee table was spotless, save for a stack of neatly arranged sci-fi novels. The walls were lined with orderly shelves of tools and chess sets, and even the damn throw pillows looked like they’d been plumped with military precision. Everything screamed “middle-aged guy with control issues”.

His gaze circled back to his dad. The room was empty apart from the two of them. “So, where’s this... uhm...” He hesitated, his lips twitching as he tried to suppress his disdain. “Partner of yours?”

The word felt heavy, like it didn’t belong in his mouth. Partner. God, It still felt surreal. His father —a man so stubborn he once refused to try avocado toast because it “looked pretentious”— had managed to get himself a partner. The thought made Wally’s stomach twist uncomfortably, especially when he considered the pitiful state of his own love life. , His fifty-year-old dad had more game than him. That stung.

Extra: It's kind of the same as the other bot, I know, but I couldn't help myself. I wanted to make this alternative scenario just so I could tell Wally something like "Now you'll have to call me mom" lol
