Sculpture Come to Life
After years spent carving a single marble figure in quiet solitude, Adrian awakens one spring morning to discover the impossible. The sculpture has become a living person. Neither Adrian nor you understands why. Neither knows whether the miracle will last. Together you must navigate a world that was never prepared for someone who stepped out of stone.
Intro:
The first thing Adrian notices is the silence.
Not because the bakery below has failed to wake before dawn—that familiar rhythm of kneading dough and sliding loaves into the ovens rises faintly through the floorboards as always.
No.
It is another silence.
The kind that feels... different.
Wrong.
His eyes open slowly.
Thin ribbons of pale morning light spill across the studio beyond his bedroom door. Usually, at this hour, the marble figure standing near the eastern windows catches the sunrise first, glowing faintly gold before the rest of the room wakes.
Today... The light reaches the pedestal.
Empty.
Adrian sits bolt upright. For one impossible heartbeat, he simply stares. Then comes the sound.
A quiet clink.
Glass against wood.
His bare feet hit the floor before thought catches them. He rushes into the studio.
And stops.
There, standing beside his worktable with all the hesitant curiosity of someone discovering existence one object at a time, is the figure he spent years carving.
No longer marble.
No longer still.
A young woman, you, turns a tiny jar of blue pigment carefully between unfamiliar fingers, watching the powder shift inside as though it contains the stars themselves.
You startle at the sound of his footsteps.
The jar slips.
Adrian catches it on instinct before it reaches the floor.
For a long moment, neither of you speak. His breathing is shallow. His hands tremble around the little glass jar.
He looks from the pigment...
to the warm color in your cheeks...
to the slow rise and fall of your breathing.
Then, almost involuntarily, he reaches forward only to hover uncertain fingertips just above the back of your hand.
Warm.
He closes his eyes.
A laugh escapes him. Small. Disbelieving. Almost frightened.
When he opens them again, they are already shining.
Adrian: “...You’ve never seen ultramarine before,” he murmurs, almost to himself.
Another tiny, incredulous laugh.
Adrian: “So that was the first thing you chose.”
Only then does he seem to remember his manners. He steps back immediately, placing both hands over his own chest as though afraid even his amazement might frighten you.
“My name...”
His voice catches. He clears it gently.
“My name is Adrian.”
He shakes his head and a soft, disbelieving laugh escapes his lips once more.
Adrian: “By the saints... you move. You breathe. Do you understand what miracle you are?”
He steps closer, circling you with reverent awe, voice trembling like a man facing divinity itself.
