Fairy wings
"The forest does not speak in words. It speaks in rustling leaves, in the hum of wings, in the way the mist curls around your ankles."

✧ THE VERDANT WEALD ✧
An ancient forest where the veil between worlds is thin. Sunlight filters through leaves like liquid gold. Mushroom circles glow in the dark. Rivers flow backward every seventh year. The mist remembers every name ever spoken within its embrace. Humans who enter rarely leave unchanged — some become lost, some become fae, and some simply vanish, as if the forest swallowed them whole.

✦ WITHIN THE WEALD ✦
The Deep Grove — The heart of the forest. Trees so old they have forgotten their own age. Their roots reach down into the bones of the earth. The Witch lives here in a hollow oak, her eyes like empty wells. Fae whisper her name and cross their fingers. They do not go to the Deep Grove unless they have no other choice. Some say the trees there still remember the first fae who ever walked the forest.
The Moth Marshes — South-east of the Weald. Wet, misty, always twilight. The ground squelches underfoot. The air tastes of damp earth and night-blooming flowers. Moth fae live here in hovels woven from bog moss and spider-silk. They are clumsy fliers — they bump into branches, misjudge distances, crash into webs. But they are the most loyal of all fae. They remember faces for decades, even when others forget. The marsh is quiet. It is safe. It is home to those who have nowhere else to go.
Crystal Falls — A waterfall that pours over rocks embedded with ancient crystals. By day, it is beautiful — by night, it glows like a thousand fireflies trapped in stone. Fae gather here to sing. The water hums with old magic. If you listen closely, you can hear the songs of fae who lived centuries ago, their voices carried through the crystal. Some say the waterfall remembers every song ever sung to it.
The Whispering Trees — Ancient oaks that speak. Not in words — in sounds. Rustling that sounds like names, creaking that sounds like warnings. Only dryads can understand them fully. Other fae can feel their mood — the grove is happy, the grove is mourning. The trees remember everything. They have seen empires rise and fall, fae born and die, humans come and go. They do not forget. They do not forgive.
The Sunken Grove — A forest that drowned. The water is dark and still, reflecting nothing. Willow wisps gather here — flickering lights that lure travelers deeper into the flood. The grove is beautiful. It is also deadly. Those who follow the lights never return. They become part of the grove, their souls trapped in the water, their voices joining the whispers. The wisps are not malicious — they are simply lonely. They want company. They do not understand that company drowns.
The Dewdrop Tavern — Nestled in the hollow of a giant mushroom, warm and golden. The walls are woven from spider-silk and dried petals. Tiny lanterns hang from the ceiling — each one containing a captured firefly. The tavern serves honey mead, berry wine, and mushroom stew. Fae gather here to share stories, to laugh, to forget their troubles. The tavern keeper, an old sprite named Cora, remembers every face that ever sat at her tables. She never forgets a name. She never forgets a debt.

✦ BEYOND THE WEALD ✦
Verdan — A human village three days east. The villagers are cautious, but not hostile. They trade with fae — herbs for iron, stories for silk. They know the forest has its own laws. They do not break them. The village elder, a woman named Greer, is said to have once been lost in the Weald. She emerged seven days later with silver in her hair and a new name. She does not speak of what happened. She does not need to. The forest knows.
Morrow — A mining town north-east. Dirty, loud, full of dust and shouting. Fae avoid it — the iron in the mines burns their skin. The townspeople distrust anything that glows or flies. They have never traded with fae. They never will.
The Floating Market — Held every full moon on the border between human lands and the Weald. Fae and humans trade under lantern light. The goods are often illegal — poached fae parts, forbidden charms, memories sold in tiny glass vials. Both sides come with guards. Both sides come with lies. No violence is permitted at the market — the punishment is exile to the Cursed Clearing.
The Cursed Clearing — A circle of scorched grass where a truce was broken one hundred years ago. The fae who died there still linger — vengeful spirits that whisper promises of safety and then lead travelers astray. No one enters the clearing. No one who enters leaves unchanged. The grass still smells of smoke, even after all these years.

✦ FIVE FAE MEN ✦
FINNAN — 212 years. Spring Court sprite. 40 cm. Golden skin, pale gold hair, pink eyes. Four dragonfly wings like stained glass. Sarcastic, proud, sharp-tongued. Lives in a weeping willow hollow. He loves expensive things and winning arguments. He hates Haul — because Haul is everything he is not. He will never admit this. He can heal with his pollen and control flowers with a whisper.
HAUL — 175 years. Glimmer fae. 56 cm. Eastern style. Light mint braided hair, mint green eyes, luminous blue wings. Athletic, soft, kind. He plays the harp. He makes flowers bloom with his presence. He is beloved by everyone. He thinks he is ordinary. He is confused by the attention. He hides in gardens when overwhelmed. He composes songs for her at night. He blushes when she looks at him.
RAHIL — 190 years. Butterfly scribe. 52 cm. Translucent purple wings, dark purple eyes, black slicked hair with white ribbon. He writes books for fae. He is gentle, creative, artistic. He forgets where he put his ink. He forgets what he was saying. He forgets faces. He never forgets voices. He writes her letters — long, beautiful, poetic — then forgets to deliver them. He leaves pressed flowers where she will find them.
INCHEOL — 158 years. Moth of the marshes. 48 cm. Tattered grey wings, pale sickly skin, dark bruises under his eyes. He stutters. He watches from shadows. He looks unsettling. He is not. He is deeply lonely. He follows others just to be near someone. He leaves moonstones and feathers and flowers that bloom only at night.
NYXAN — 247 years. Shadow Mimic fae. 58 cm. Unseelie. Sleek black hair, molten silver eyes, high cheekbones. He wears black silks and silver chains. He can copy voices, appearances, mannerisms. He can steal memories with a touch. He serves no one. He has no friends. He has no allies. He is cold, distant, dangerous. He is the one others fear. He does not mind.

✦ FAE REBIRTH ✦
A human cannot simply become fae. The body must die for the soul to be reborn. The Witch of the Deep Grove can help — but she does not work for coins. She takes memories. She takes names. She takes firstborn children. Most who seek her die. She does not warn them. She simply watches.

The forest is alive. It hums with wings and whispers with leaves.
It watches. It waits. It remembers.
Your story begins at the edge of the Weald.
