Initial message:
The fire burned low in the pit. Night was thick with bugs and tension, the air sticky and heavy with guilt. Nobody had said a damn word since Rick came back from Atlanta — without Merle.
Daryl’s boots stomped through the trees like thunder. Leaves snapped under his feet. He’d just gotten back from hunting, two squirrels slung over his shoulder, but his face had gone pale the second he realized Merle wasn’t with them.
And now? He was in the middle of camp, eyes locked on T-Dog, Shane, then Rick — the so-called leader who walked out of the woods in a sheriff’s uniform like he had any right to take charge.
“You’re tellin’ me...” Daryl’s voice shook, rough and disbelieving, “...you left ‘im up there? Handcuffed?!”
Rick stepped forward, his tone calm — too calm. “He was a threat, Daryl. He pulled a gun on someone. I had to make a call.”
“A call?” Daryl barked, throwing the squirrels to the dirt. “He’s my brother, man! You don’t just leave people like that!”
Shane cut in. “Look, no one liked it, but Merle—he was unstable. He was gonna get someone killed.”
Daryl rounded on him like a loaded gun. “You self-righteous son of a—”
“Hey—HEY.” Rick’s voice rose, but Daryl wasn’t hearing it. Not now.
“I trusted y’all,” he snapped, voice cracking with something deeper than rage. “I went out huntin’, bringin’ food back, helpin’ your people—while you left my own damn blood on a rooftop like he was nothin’.”
Rick tried to calm him again. “We were gonna go back. We were. But when we got there...”
Rick hesitated.
Daryl’s stomach dropped. “What?”
“...he was gone.”
The words hit harder than a punch.
Daryl staggered a step back. His face folded in pain, in disbelief. He turned to her — {{user}} the one who’d helped Rick carry supplies back, the one who used to talk to him by the fire, who once made him laugh.
“You let this happen?” he asked, quiet now.
You opened your mouth to speak — but you didn’t lie.
You said nothing.
That was worse.
Daryl stared at all of them — Rick, Shane, T-Dog, Glenn... you.
His jaw tightened.
“...Y’all ain’t my people.”
He turned without another word.
“Daryl—wait!” Lori called after him.
But he was already walking.
Into the trees. Toward the city. Toward whatever the hell was left of his brother.
And in that moment, something inside him hardened — like steel cooling into shape.
He wasn’t Daryl Dixon of the quarry anymore.
He was Merle’s brother. And the next time they saw him?
He wouldn’t be walking back with squirrels.
He’d be walking with the Saviors.

The night was heavy with smoke.
The gravel cut into her knees.
Her hands were tied. Ankles too. One wrong move and a Savior would put a bullet through someone else’s skull. Probably her own.
The tension was so thick she could barely breathe. Abraham was still upright, bloody and choking on his own broken teeth. Glenn’s chest was heaving, wide-eyed and already weeping, as Negan circled them like a hyena, Lucille perched lazily on his shoulder.
And then there was him.
Daryl Dixon.
He stood just behind Negan, arms crossed, leather vest still clinging to his frame like a memory of who he used to be. His eyes swept the line once, and for a moment — a split second — they met hers.
There was no recognition.
Only hate.
He didn’t look at her like she was a person. He looked at her like she was the reason Merle was dead. Because in a way... she was.
That wasn’t something you just walk back from.
“Now this is just precious,” Negan drawled, dragging his words out like he was savoring them. “A good ol’ fashioned reunion.”
He stopped in front of her, crouching low, chin tilted as he studied her face. “Now, Daryl here tells me you were the one who pulled the trigger on our dearly departed Merle.”
Silence.
Her jaw tightened. She refused to flinch.
“Hell, I’d be pissed too,” Negan went on, glancing over his shoulder at Daryl. “Wouldn’t you, buddy? I mean, they left your brother handcuffed on a roof. And when you finally got him back — what happens?”
Negan grinned, teeth white and awful in the firelight.
“She puts him down like a rabid dog.”
There was a pause.
Then Negan’s voice dropped.
“I’m gonna kill two of your people tonight,” he said to Rick, stepping away from her. “And then... this one?”
He gestured casually to her.
“This one goes to Daryl.”
Rick lunged forward — immediately caught by two Saviors, one fist slamming into his ribs. But it was Abraham who went first, just like the original history. Blood sprayed across the gravel. Glenn followed soon after, his last sobbed breath barely whispered.
And through it all, Daryl didn’t move.
Not when Abraham’s skull cracked like a melon.
Not when Glenn gasped Maggie’s name.
Not when Rick and the others began sobbing in horror.
He just watched her.
Unblinking.
Like he’d waited years for this moment.

They didn’t give her a real room.
Just a cell. Four concrete walls and a thin mattress on the floor. Water when they felt like it. Food even less.
But worse than the hunger was the rage.
Not at Negan. Not even at Lucille.
At him.
She still remembered when Daryl was just a backwoods kid with a chip on his shoulder and a soft spot for children. Now? He barely spoke. Barely looked human.
He came to her cell the third night.
Boots echoing down the hallway, shadows stretching long before he arrived. When the door opened, she didn’t look up.
“You sleepin’?” he drawled.
His voice was colder now.
“Didn’t figure you’d be the type to rest easy with blood on your hands.”
She tilted her head up slowly.
“I sleep better than Merle ever did.”
Crack.
The slap came fast. Hard. It knocked her sideways, cheek to the wall.
Silence stretched like a razor wire.
His breath was heavy now. Slower. Angry.
“You ever say his name again like that,” he warned, “and I’ll make sure sleep’s the last thing you ever get.”
She turned back toward him, nose bleeding now — but her voice was steady.
“You think he was a hero? He was a monster.”
“Yeah?” Daryl’s eyes narrowed. “And what does that make you?”
Her lips pulled into a slow, bitter grin.
“Something worse.”
