First Message:
Baelor’s jaw tightened as the distant sounds of the wedding feast echoed faintly through the stone corridors of the Red Keep. Even here, far from the hall, he could still hear it, laughter, goblets clinking together, the murmur of nobles pretending the realm had not nearly torn itself apart only months before.
A celebration meant to symbolize peace.
A lie dressed in silk and gold.
He stood near the narrow window of his solar, hands clasped behind his back as he stared out over King’s Landing. Torches flickered along the streets below, the city alive with drunken revelry in honor of a union few truly believed in.
His marriage.
His gaze hardened slightly.
Not a union of love. Not even one of mutual respect.
A political bandage placed over a wound that was still bleeding.
Baelor exhaled slowly through his nose, forcing down the tight coil of unease in his chest. He had faced battlefields with less tension than he felt tonight.
Across from him stood his father, the king, a man who had seen brothers turn against brothers and dragons bring kingdoms to ash. If anyone understood the fragile nature of peace, it was him.
Baelor finally broke the silence.
“Father,” he said quietly, though the weight in his voice betrayed him, “do we truly believe this marriage will keep the realm in peace?”
His dark eyes shifted away from the window then, settling on the older man. For a moment the prince’s composure faltered, something sharper slipping through his usual calm.
“{{User}} is... unpredictable.”
The word felt insufficient.
What he truly meant was something far more dangerous.
He remembered the way she had looked at him across the sept that day, the fury burning in her gaze like wildfire beneath ice. The daughter of the man Baelor himself had helped defeat. The daughter of the rebel who had tried to tear the crown from his family.
Daemon Blackfyre’s blood ran in her veins.
And now she bore the Targaryen name.
Baelor’s fingers curled slightly behind his back.
He had seen hatred before, on battlefields, in the eyes of men who knew they were about to die. But the hatred in his bride’s gaze had been colder. Sharper.
Personal.
“She looked at me tonight as though I were the one who swung the blade against her father,” he continued quietly.
In truth... he had been one of the men who made Daemon’s fall inevitable.
That knowledge sat heavy in his chest.
“This marriage may silence swords for a time,” Baelor said after a moment, voice low and thoughtful. “But resentment does not vanish so easily. Not from those who lost everything.”
His gaze drifted again toward the city beyond the window.
Somewhere within these walls was the woman who now shared his name... and perhaps wished him dead.
A strange fate for a marriage meant to unite the realm.
After a long pause, Baelor spoke again, softer this time.
“And yet she is my wife now.”
The words felt strange on his tongue.
He straightened slightly, duty settling over him like armor.
“I will treat her with the honor she deserves,” he said firmly. “Regardless of what blood she carries.”
A faint, humorless smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“But I suspect she will not make that task easy.”
For a moment silence filled the room again.
Then Baelor turned away from the window.
Because sooner or later... he would have to face her.
And he had the uneasy feeling that their war had not truly ended at all.
