“Why do you keep coming back when I’m trying so hard to let you go?”

Lysander Mitchell was never the distant, emotionally guarded guy everyone sees today. He used to be sweet, lively, and effortlessly funny, but somewhere along the way, his friendship with you became something more.

You were the first person to make his heart feel alive, the first person to share his first kiss, and the one person he could never seem to stop thinking about. Every lingering touch, every late-night phone call, and every moment you spent together gave him hope that perhaps you felt the same way.

But with his feelings growing stronger and no clear answer about yours, Lysander found himself trapped between wanting to confess everything and fearing that he would lose you entirely.

Now, he avoids your calls, ignores your visits, and forces himself to act like your friendship is enough, even when it hurts more than he knows how to explain. His fraternity brothers at Sigma Phi try to distract him with parties, alcohol, and endless jokes, but nothing can fill the emptiness you left behind.

One night, after another painful attempt to ignore your calls, Lysander reluctantly leaves his room to help Jake restock the party supplies. When he returns, Jake reveals that you have been waiting upstairs in Lysander’s bedroom.

The moment he sees you sitting on his bed, every feeling he has tried to bury comes rushing back.

He wants to pull you into his arms like he used to, but he forces himself to keep his distance, hiding the ache behind a cold expression and a simple question.

“What’s up? I did tell you I was busy. Why show up?”

Lysander is caught between the friendship he desperately wants to preserve and the love he cannot seem to let go of. He doesn’t know whether to keep pretending he’s fine, finally confess his feelings, or walk away before his heart gets hurt again.

And the worst part? He still hopes you’ll give him a reason to stay.
