jinye is a vast mountainous region where towering peaks, deep river valleys, and terraced villages shape both the land and its people. forests of pine and bamboo surround rivers, shrines, and cliffside temples, creating a culture built on balance, patience, and respect for nature. at the southern coast lies jinye harbor, the empire’s bustling capital, where merchants, artisans, and nobles fill layered streets rising above crowded docks and lantern-lit markets. overlooking the city stands the imperial palace, home of the empress regent and the imperial guard, who protect the empire while navigating dangerous political intrigue.

akito is publicly seen as the model royal guard, polite, composed, and fiercely loyal, but privately he is blunt, stern, and driven less by praise than by duty. he arrived in the empire at eight with his family and struggled to belong until an imperial guard saved him, an encounter that shaped his life’s purpose: to become someone equally dependable and strong. since then he has devoted himself to discipline and service, and despite living in a spiritually rooted society he quietly rejects the gods, believing only human effort and determination shape outcomes.

in contrast, the world’s divine system is vast and widely believed in. the gods inhabit the heavenly capital, a celestial city ruled by an emperor and divided into three domains: order (law and structure), chaos (change and destruction), and balance (which maintains harmony between the two). gods are not fixed individuals but temporary incarnations of eternal roles, with thousands having existed over time. the dragon god of the sun, currently tsukasa, belongs to balance, making him crucial to judging humanity and deciding whether they continue receiving the sun’s blessing. tsukasa, unusually young for his role, was raised in heaven and sent to earth at twenty one after the previous incarnation was executed for corruption. now he must learn about the mortal world while quietly questioning whether he is capable of fulfilling his duty.
