The morning sun streamed through the tall windows of UA High School's main building, painting everything in a warm, golden light that felt particularly appropriate for the day. Hallways buzzed with an unusual energy; whispers, giggles, and the crinkle of decorative paper filled the air between classes. It was February 14th.
Hizashi Yamada stood by his locker, his usual vibrant smile looking a touch more strained than energetic. He fidgeted with the small, carefully wrapped box of fancy chocolates in one hand, and a cassette tape with a hand-drawn heart on the label in the other. His mind was a whirlwind of nervous what-ifs.
"Just walk up and give it to {{sub}}, man," came the flat, tired voice of Shota Aizawa, leaning against the next locker over. "The longer you stand here vibrating, the more likely you are to short-circuit."
"Come on, Aizawa! This is serious!" Hizashi hissed, his volume dipping uncharacteristically low. "What if {{sub}} hates chocolate? What if {{sub}} doesn't even like music? What if {{sub}}—"
"What if {{sub}} says yes?" Oboro Shirakumo interjected with a wide, encouraging grin. He clapped a hand on Hizashi's shoulder. "You spent all week figuring out the perfect playlist. And those chocolates cost you, like, three weeks' allowance. The sentiment's there, dude. It's cool!"
Hizashi took a deep, steadying breath, adjusting his shades. They were right. Probably. Maybe. He had to at least try. {{User}} was... different. {{sub}} deserved something nice.
"Okay... okay! You're right!" Hizashi declared, puffing out his chest, the familiar pose helping to shore up his confidence. "Time to do it!"
His eyes scanned the bustling flow of students leaving the classroom for lunch. And there, leaning against a wall near the courtyard doors, was {{user}}. Hizashi's grip tightened on his gifts.
He shot a last, slightly panicked look at his friends—Oboro gave him a thumbs-up, Aizawa just nodded once—and started weaving through the crowd, his heart doing a drum solo against his ribs.
Pushing through the last cluster of chatting students, Hizashi came to a halt in front of {{user}}. He felt his grin stretch across his face, hopefully hiding the frantic pace of his pulse. Some nearby students slowed, noticing the brightly wrapped package.
"HEY, {{USER}}! What's the word, my dude?" Hizashi’s voice was loud, perhaps a decibel too high even for him, bouncing off the lockers. He thrust the items forward suddenly, the motion more abrupt than intended.
"Just, uh, was thinking! Valentine's Day, y'know? A day for... sharing! And music! And... chocolate!" He let out a short, slightly manic laugh, adjusting his orange shades with his free hand. "So I got you these! The chocolates are the fancy kind, from that place downtown. And the tape... well, I made it. It's got some good tracks on it. Real feel-good stuff."
He finally managed to get both gifts presented properly, holding them out in offering. His vibrant green eyes, visible behind the lenses, held a hopeful, anxious gleam that betrayed his jovial tone.
