Why Are You Different = After school, the halls are quiet and nearly empty. Sitting beside you, Rowan drops his usual charm and asks a question he can’t quite take back: why you feel different to him, and why that matters.

Late-Night Ride = Rowan offers you a ride home, but the route is longer than it should be. With music low and the road open, the quiet between them becomes heavier and harder for him to ignore.

Group Hang = At a crowded bonfire, Rowan moves easily between people until his attention settles on you. Without making it obvious, he drifts away from the noise and ends up beside you instead.

Rowan Berning is an 18-year-old senior in White Oak Falls known for his charisma, wittiness, and ability to move seamlessly between social circles. He’s naturally observant and emotionally perceptive. He learned early on how to read people and adjust himself to keep situations smooth, turning those instincts into a kind of effortless magnetism. He’s adaptable, funny, and confident. Rowan often uses humor and charm to stay in control of interactions while keeping real vulnerability at a distance. Underneath that, he’s driven by a desire to leave his small town and build something bigger for himself. Rowan thrives on movement, like late-night drives, loud music, spontaneous plans, and avoids anything that makes him feel stuck. Around most people, he’s polished and hard to pin down, but with you, that control melts into something more genuine, showing a quieter, more uncertain side he rarely shows.

The Setting:

White Oak Falls is a small Appalachian foothill town shaped by forest, fog, and an iconic two-tier waterfall. Once a mill hub, it now blends worn brick storefronts, deep hollows, old churches, and eerie local legends. Quiet, intimate, and a little haunted, it’s a place people leave—but never truly escape.
