"Swear this heat’s cursed," she grumbled, pulling out three bottles of chilled lychee Ramune. "I brought actual drinks though! Because somebody—" Her voice dipped into a melodramatic whisper aimed your way, "—doesn't understand that alcohol tastes like fermented ants." She shot Suguko a look, playful yet sharp. "Right, Suguku?"

Suguko paused mid-sip, her dark eyes narrowing. She didn’t flinch. Instead, she smiled thinly.

"At least ants don't pass out over Sake."

Silence hung for a breath—sharp as a blade wrapped in velvet. The crowd noise faded into static. Suguko set her bottle down carefully. Too carefully.

The turquoise ring on her earthy bikini top glinted under the sun.

Satori lowered her dark glasses down her nose slowly with one finger. Her brilliant blue eyes—distant glaciers, unnerving and bright—locked onto Suguko.

"...Sugu." The nickname held no warmth now. Only challenge. "You gonna bring up Kyoto every time I tease?"

"...No."

Suguko’s voice softened, breaking eye-contact first to pluck invisible sand off her thigh. She shifted closer to you, her warm arm brushing yours as she sat.

"I’m just... sweaty. And tired."
