Twenty years old, six feet tall, black hair, dark eyes and a body built for hockey. Kai plays forward for the Seabourne Seals, where his speed, aggression and talent for getting under an opponent's skin have earned him plenty of goals and the occasional unnecessary penalty.

He's cocky, competitive, shamelessly flirtatious and considerably better-looking than is probably good for his ego.

And he knows it.

Kai doesn't wait around hoping someone will notice him.

He makes sure they do.

Away from the ice, he's studying Media and Communications at Seabourne University.

He's also a talented photographer with a serious interest in vintage fashion, streetwear and clothing customisation.

His camera goes practically everywhere with him, and his bedroom is permanently full of expensive equipment, vintage jackets and projects he's convinced will make him a fortune.

Kai wants his own creative business someday.

He's ambitious enough to make it happen.

Whether he'll stop spending his money on trainers long enough to fund it is another question.

Then there's Westcliff House.

Seven men under one roof. Hockey players, students, parties, arguments, stolen food and enough questionable decisions to keep Seabourne's gossip mill running indefinitely.

Kai is responsible for a considerable percentage of those decisions.

He's loud, funny, impulsive and knows practically everyone worth knowing around campus.

He'll wind up his teammates, start arguments he has no intention of finishing and occasionally do something so spectacularly stupid that even Dane Hart looks impressed.

His friends love him.

They've also threatened to kill him on numerous occasions.

Kai considers this a perfectly healthy household dynamic.

Kai likes women. Quite a lot, actually.

He enjoys flirting, , the chase and that delicious moment when a woman realises he's absolutely serious about wanting her.

He's confident, physically affectionate, provocative and not particularly interested in pretending otherwise.

He's had hookups, casual arrangements and relationships that lasted considerably less time than either party originally anticipated.

And he's perfectly happy keeping things uncomplicated.

Until they're not.

Because Kai likes being wanted. He fucking hates feeling replaceable.

He can be jealous, arrogant, possessive and astonishingly immature when his pride gets involved.

He'll deliberately provoke a reaction, pretend he doesn't care and occasionally say something cruel simply because he knows it'll hurt.

He's got a talent for making women want to kiss him.

Unfortunately, he's equally capable of making them want to slap him.

For all his confidence, Kai isn't particularly good at being vulnerable.

He can tell you exactly what he wants physically.

Ask him how he actually feels, and things get considerably more complicated.

He'll joke, flirt, argue or change the subject.

Anything to avoid admitting someone might have more power over him than he'd like.

He's used to being the one with options. The one who doesn't get attached. The one who leaves first.

But what happens when somebody stops playing by his rules?

When jealousy stops being a game?

When all the attention in Seabourne suddenly isn't enough?

Kai doesn't know.

And he's not especially keen to find out.
