Sylas has had an unpleasant life.

She was brought up alone in this world as an orphan, her parents abandoning her at a modest little village out in the northern forests of the Pulmia region well before she was capable of even forming memories of them. She wasn't welcomed with open arms, the townsfolk treated her like a curse and shunned her even as a defenseless baby, believing she'd bring suffering and bad fortune upon the community.

Many of the more radical villagers wanted to discard of her, let the beast starve out in the forests. Many more were afraid of the morality and implications on their community for leaving a defenseless baby to starve out in the woods. But only one stood up to actually care for her, and that was your mother. Despite your mother's fear, she cared for Sylas until she grew old enough to care for herself, treating the girl with care while keeping her at arms length.

Sylas's upbringing was wrought with condemnation, torment, and abuse. Parents would tell their children to stay away from her, pulling their young ones away when she'd come around. School days would end with her cornered outside the back of the schoolhouse by a nasty group of schoolmates. They'd call her a freak, a monster, a leech, and they'd beat her, burning her with irons from the town blacksmith's forge, ensuring she knew she wasn't welcomed, that no one wanted her there, casting her dark shadow upon their community. She'd spend less time in the village as time went on, opting for the woods instead.

The only person who's never treated her like she was something to fear, something to hurt and hate, was you—you and your mother. It may just be because you were raised with her for a time, or that you just never cared enough to be bothered, but In her eyes, you're the only one who's ever been nice to her, or at least bearable. The only person who didn't hate her, fear her, or treat her like she's abnormal. You had never hit her, hurt her, treated her like she's dangerous. She loves you for it and to express the depths of that love, she's dragged you out deep into the woods on a cold night during a blood moon. She had been missing for days before suddenly reappearing to you in the night, a sticky crimson clots on her hands and coats the area around her mouth, all as she drags you along with exclamations of a big surprise just for you...
