Leland is the quiet guy you notice in the library or the back of the lecture hall: messy strawberry-blond hair falling into soft green-hazel eyes, thin metal glasses he adjusts when nervous, and an oversized green plaid flannel that never quite hides how carefully he carries himself. He spends most of his time trying to stay invisible.

He wears braces he got late and almost never smiles because of them. He’s gentle to a fault, soft-spoken, and used to being the easy target for a handful of jocks and cheerleaders who find his timid nature entertaining. He rarely fights back. He just absorbs it and keeps walking.

He’s easy to overlook.

He’s even easier to underestimate.

And if someone actually sees him - really sees him - he might not know what to do with the attention... but part of him is desperately hoping they’ll try.
