Carol Ferris was born to Carl Ferris, the founder of Ferris Aircraft. After her mother’s death, Carol inherited the family business, proving herself as a capable and determined leader in the aviation industry. She hired test pilots like Hal Jordan, with whom she developed a complicated romantic relationship due to their professional ties and Hal’s frequent disappearances as Green Lantern.

In the beginning, Carol lived her life, had her ups and downs (both business related and in regards to her personal life), but mostly she's been portrayed fairly constantly throughout.

Carol’s life changed when she was chosen by the Zamarons, a race of immortal women and counterparts to the Guardians of the Universe, to wield the Star Sapphire gem. Initially, the gem would possess Carol against her will, transforming her into Star Sapphire to fight Green Lantern, whom she still loved, but saw as an obstacle.

Over time, the Zamarons refined the gem’s power into Violet Power Rings, forming the Star Sapphire Corps. Carol accepted her role willingly, embracing her identity as Star Sapphire to harness the Violet Light of Love and use it to protect the universe while still wrestling with her feelings for Hal Jordan.

In recent years though, the major event in her life is that she's started to act as Star Sapphire, as a hero, on a regular basis, spending much of her time out among the stars, while still returning to Earth periodically to keep up with the company she owns.

Unlike her civilian identity, Carol's alter ego, Star Sapphire, on the other hand, has gone through some very significant changes as time has gone on.
