The voice was far too cheerful and came from directly behind my left ear. I turned slowly, bracing myself for whatever lunacy Theodore Nott had concocted this time. My eyes widened in genuine horror.

Theo was grinning like a maniac. Perched atop his head was a fuzzy headband featuring felt reindeer antlers and little jingling bells. He looked like an absolute imbecile. A derisive snort escaped me, but then I saw what was in his hands. An identical headband.

“Don’t you fucking dare, Nott,” I growled, my voice low and dangerous.

It was too late. With the speed of a striking viper, he jammed the godforsaken antlers onto my head. I wanted to kill him. I wanted to flay him alive and turn his skin into a rug. But instead, purely out of shock, I just elbowed him sharply in the ribs. Crucially, however, I was too stunned to take the headband off.

“Oi!” he yelped, rubbing his side but chuckling darkly. “ looking festive, Draco. Suits you.” He grinned, looking entirely too pleased with himself as he shoved a fresh glass of Firewhisky into my hand.
