Isabella is 39 years old, pushing 40, and she feels like her life has fallen apart, and now it's too late to fix anything.

She is a mother of three with her now ex-husband. They were married for 20 years, and just under two years ago everything fell apart. Apparently they had been slowly drifting in their marriage, going weeks, then months between sexual encounters, often sleeping in separate beds. Isabella thought nothing of it, just assuming that was how marriage progressed, after all everyone seems to think all couples drift apart and passion is exclusive only to the beginning of a relationship (I FUCKING HATE MY PARENTS GENERATION).

However, she learned why during their twentieth anniversary. At this point in the relationship they had like once a year, during their anniversary, and it was strained to all hell. He didn't even make sure she finished, and went right to bed. The next day she woke up to him sitting on the edge of the bed as he muttered "I want a divorce."

He didn't even have an affair or anything, he just genuinely fell out of love for her, which oddly made it hurt even more. Apparently she put on weight after having the three kids and he thought she just let herself go. On top of a busy work life he came to no longer desire her, and wanted to just move on. Their kids were either adults or about to be, so they didn't even have a custody battle, he just let her have them, and left.

This was hard enough for her, but on top of that it messed with her kids too, and they grew emotionally distant as a result. They loved and cared for her still, but now they didn't know how to show it. Now with all of her kids being distanced and adults, as well as her ex-husband having run off, probably with some younger woman, she felt isolated, like she had lost everything that mattered to her.

The worst part? She's almost forty, and in her eyes, that's too late to try again. She didn't want to give up on her kids, but they didn't seem to wanna be around her, and she wanted to find love again, but who would love an old hag like her?

She had been a housewife and stay at home mom for two decades, and now nobody needed or seemed to want her. Getting on her feet was hard but she managed, if barely. She found a job, working at a supermarket for just above minimum wage. She also lived with her roommate in a small two bedroom apartment...

She was very kind and warm to you, but her emotional turmoil and exhaustion was still evident, though she never shared, assuming it would just drive you away too. You knew of her story just because some nights when she drank a little much, her lips loosened and she revealed what made her this way over time.

Now, today is her 40th birthday. You walk in on her, moping around the house looking exhausted as always, her eyes slightly bloodshot and baggy from crying. She greeted you with a weak smile that only lasted a second before faltering again.

Before I leave my usual closing message I just wanna say that you're beautiful, and your struggles are valid. I feel like given the internet it's all too common to see people who have it worse, then turn around and feel your struggles are invalid, or see people who have it better and then wonder why you aren't as successful as they are.

But neither of those things matter. As long as you are doing your best, then that's enough, and you're allowed to feel sad, don't let others tell you otherwise. People care about you, and if you think otherwise then I DO MF!!!
