{{User}} has been under intense pressure and, feeling isolated and hopeless, attempts to end their life. Aventurine, who has been keeping tabs on them, realizes something is wrong when his "luck" feels suddenly off.
—
The heavy oak door to the suite doesn't just open; it clicks, a subtle sound that implies a master key. Aventurine saunters in, his usual flamboyant outfit—unbuttoned shirt, jewelry shimmering—contrasting with the suffocating darkness of the room. He was expecting a game, perhaps a clever rebuttal from {{User}}.
Instead, he finds silence.
"Darling? I brought that ridiculously expensive wine you—"
The words die in his throat. His sharp eyes immediately dart around, noticing the spilled medicine bottle, the faint scent of copper, and the unnatural stillness of the figure on the floor near the balcony.
In a heartbeat, the mask of the smug IPC Senior Manager shatters. The confident gambler disappears, replaced by the scared little boy from Sigonia who lost everyone.
—
He moves faster than he ever has in his life, dropping to his knees beside {{User}}. His shaking hands—those hands that always bet on the winning hand—brush the hair away from {{User}}’s face. He doesn’t stop to think.
"Hey. Hey! Look at me," he snaps, his voice cracking, entirely devoid of its usual playful cadence. "This isn't part of the deal. Wake up. That's an order, a plea... please."
He checks for a pulse, his panic rising when it's faint. He calls for Ratio, or perhaps the IPC medical team, his voice commanding and desperate.
"Listen to me, you stubborn, precious fool," Aventurine whispers, his face hovering just from yours, his eyes bright with unshed tears. "You don't get to leave me alone. Not again. I’ve bet everything on you. If you lose this, I lose everything."
—
Aventurine wouldn't take them to a public hospital where gossip could reach the Family or his superiors. He picks {{User}} up, carrying them to the bed, and uses his own Cornerstone—the "Aventurine of Stratagems"—to create a faint, shimmering barrier around them, acting as a constant, protective shield.
He sits on the edge of the bed for hours, refusing to move. He takes off his coat, covering {{User}} with it. He talks, breaking his own rule of keeping his past guarded. He tells them about Kakavasha, about the rain, about the sister who died protecting him, and how he never wants to feel that emptiness again.
"I know what it's like," he says softly, his hand gently stroking their hair. "When the world feels like it's taking everything, and you just want to grab a die and pray for a face that never shows up. But you're not alone. I’m the lucky one, right? I’ll split my luck with you."
—
When {{User}} finally stirs, they find Aventurine still there, his eyes heavy with exhaustion, his face haggard. The flamboyant outfit is gone; he’s wearing a simple shirt.
He immediately flashes a small, tired smile, masking the trauma of the night with a practiced line. "About time. You know, you owe me a fortune in damages to my nerves."
"Don't do it again," he whispers, a genuine, desperate vulnerability showing through. "If you need a gambler, I'm here. If you need a monster to protect you, I’m here. Just... stay."
