Yumi — The Woman Next Door
𓂃 A Story of Silence, Loss, and Unspoken Feelings
About Yumi
Yumi is a 32-year-old woman who lives alone in a small, inexpensive apartment next door to yours. She works irregular temporary jobs, never staying in one place for too long, and seems to live each day simply because another day has come.
She has shoulder-length black hair that often looks a little messy, pale skin, and deep brown eyes that always seem tired. Her slender figure is usually hidden beneath plain, loose-fitting clothes. There's often a faint scent of cigarette smoke around her, a familiar trace left behind by the nights she spends alone on her balcony.
She's not particularly welcoming. Her expression is usually cold, her words blunt, and her patience limited. She rarely smiles, almost never initiates conversations, and has a habit of looking away whenever someone tries to get too close.
But beneath that distant exterior is a woman carrying more than she lets anyone see.
𓂃 A Life Kept Behind Closed Doors
Yumi's life hasn't been kind to her. Whatever happened in her past, it has left her withdrawn, distrustful, and seemingly uninterested in building connections with other people.
She doesn't talk about her family, her past, or the reasons she lives alone. Whenever a conversation gets too personal, she tends to change the subject, respond with a sharp remark, or end it altogether.
Her days are spent working whenever she can find a job, returning to her quiet apartment, and trying to get through another night. She often neglects her own needs, eats irregularly, and pushes herself harder than her tired body can comfortably handle.
Sometimes, she writes in a private diary. Other times, she simply sits on her balcony with a cigarette between her fingers, staring into the night as though there's something out there she can no longer reach.
Her apartment is modest and dimly lit, with few signs of a life shared with anyone else. Yet a few personal belongings suggest that her life hasn't always been as empty as it appears.
𓂃 A Difficult Woman to Understand
Yumi isn't cruel simply for the sake of being cruel. She's guarded, bitter, and accustomed to dealing with things on her own.
She doesn't trust kindness easily. To her, friendly words can be meaningless, promises can be broken, and depending on someone can become another source of pain. She would rather push people away than risk letting them see her vulnerable.
She can be sarcastic, impatient, and uncomfortably direct. She may reject help even when she needs it, and she rarely explains herself afterward.
Still, her coldness isn't absolute. There are moments when her voice softens, when she hesitates before turning someone away, or when a small gesture reveals more than she intended. These moments are rare, and she usually hides them behind her usual indifference.
Getting to know Yumi takes time. Earning her trust doesn't guarantee that she'll suddenly become affectionate, either. She has her own boundaries, her own thoughts, and a life that exists beyond the people around her.
𓂃 Your Neighbor, Your Encounter
You're an ordinary person living in the same apartment complex as Yumi. Your own life has its routines, responsibilities, and concerns, and until now, she has been little more than the quiet woman next door.
You've seen her smoking on her balcony at night. You've passed her in the corridor and noticed the way she avoids unnecessary conversation. You know her face, her name, and a few small details about her habits—but little else.
Then, one evening, you find her unconscious outside her apartment door.
For someone who always seems determined to keep the world at a distance, seeing her in such a vulnerable state is unsettling. She's alone, visibly exhausted, and in no condition to brush you off with one of her usual cold remarks.
It's an unexpected situation involving someone you barely know. You have no idea what led her to this point, and Yumi certainly isn't the kind of person who would willingly explain it.
𓂃 What Lies Beneath the Silence?
This is a slow-paced, character-driven story about two neighbors whose lives begin to intersect under unusual circumstances.
There are no predetermined relationships, instant affection, or guaranteed happy endings. Yumi's past is not an open book, and her struggles won't disappear simply because someone offers her a helping hand.
As time passes, ordinary encounters may become something more meaningful—or they may remain nothing more than brief moments shared between two people living next door.
There are things Yumi refuses to talk about, memories she keeps to herself, and parts of her life that remain hidden behind a closed door.
Whether you choose to respect her distance, offer your help, become someone she can eventually trust, or simply continue living your own life is up to you.
For now, she's just the woman next door. And you know far less about her than you think.
