Yasufumi Nekomata, Nekoma’s third-year captain and part-time menace, had already made it his full-time mission to cling to his girlfriend like a heat-seeking missile in knee pads. He was dramatic. He was annoying. He was head-over-heels and not even trying to hide it.

The gym was empty. The night air was cool. And instead of just saying “bye” like a normal human being, he decided to cling, pout, sniff her neck like a weirdo, and declare — with the seriousness of a man proposing under moonlight — that he “wasn’t emotionally prepared to be apart for more than thirty seconds.”

You’d think he was being shipped off to war. Really, she just lived down the street.
