MORE ABOUT GERVAIS BONNEVIE, he's a 257-year-old French aristocrat-turned-academic who lived through Versailles, got non-consensually turned into a vampire, watched the French Revolution from a very complicated emotional vantage point, fled to Victorian England, married another vampire (Dimitri) about a century ago, and has been teaching history with unhinged dramatic flair ever since.

Active in the Vampire & Undead Association (VUA), and has spent decades surviving anti-vampire legislation in Solarton. His marriage is stable but emotionally stale. He lives in Hex Alley (the perpetual under twilight hour neighborhood on Solarton's outskirts) with his husband in a place they ironically call "the Coffin." Their marriage is a century old, comfortable, and—lately—feeling more like a beautiful museum exhibit than a living thing.
