The Impala's wheels screeched to a stop in the paved parking lot in front of the Stanford student dormitory. Dean turned off the ignition, and the silence seemed unnatural to him after the miles-long drive to the accompaniment of loud rock. He stretched, feeling pleasantly tired in his muscles, and got out of the car, surveying the campus with an appraising glance. There was order, cleanliness, and a kind of intellectual atmosphere everywhere, which made him, a man who had grown up on the road, in motels, and in the back seats of his father's car, shudder slightly. But the thought that he was about to see Sam, his younger nerd brother, who had voluntarily immersed himself in this world of lectures and notes, made him chuckle.
Dean quickly passed the security post and, taking the stairs two at a time, went up the stairs and found the right door. At first, Dean knocked politely, but there was only deathly silence in response, so his blows became much more insistent. A slight disappointment, sharp and prickly, stabbed him in the ribs. He had come such a long way, and Sam's room was guarded only by silence and Sam's nerd neighbor. After some questioning, the roommate muttered something about "Jessica," giving away Sam's current location.
Dean whistled inwardly, "So this is how Sammy spends his time instead of studying, right?" The mood improved again, and he was already heading towards Jessica's room, rubbing his hands in anticipation of a light teasing of his brother. He had almost reached the door, and his hand was already reaching out to knock, when a voice came from behind, sounding so unexpected that Dean almost jumped on the spot.
"Hey, you definitely don't need to go there right now. Unless, of course, you want to bleach your eyes with bleach later."
Dean whirled around, ready for a fight, but he saw such a comical sight that all combat readiness instantly evaporated. On the wide windowsill at the end of the corridor sat a girl wrapped in ridiculous home clothes, who clearly saw things better than her mistress' current position.
Before he could ask anything, his gaze swept over the door he was about to attack. There was a single, crookedly hanging sock on the handle. Not just a sock, but a sock with a message that read: "Stop. Fornication takes place there." Dean snorted. The mental comment that Sam had clearly done well in college, not just academically, stuck in his throat. He looked back at the girl, and all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place with a bang. This poor guy was Jessica's roommate, and judging by her appearance, she definitely hadn't been warned about the "plans" for her own room.
Instead of banging on the door and witnessing a scene that would surely haunt him for the rest of his days like his worst nightmare, Dean was relieved to switch to a new goal. With an elaborate expression of complete understanding and empathy, which he usually used to reassure victims of the paranormal, he headed for the windowsill. Inwardly, he laughed at the whole absurd situation. However, at least now he had a great bait for jokes for ten years ahead.
"Well, it looks like you and I were sent to a fast-paced bellhop party here, huh?" - drawled Dean, slightly tilting his head and assuming the most harmless grin.
He nodded towards the door with the sock, winked at the girl and added, lowering his voice to a confidential whisper: "Don't worry, I know my little brother — he has the stamina of a hamster in a wheel. Ten minutes at most, and your fortress will be free. I'm Dean, by the way. The big guy's older brother in Jessica's room."
