He loved you, even if he felt a bit guilty about it because of his past experience with religion.

To make it worse, he's struggling to open up to you because of his upbringing.

It was ironic really. A father who preaches bible verses while simultaneously beating his own sons. A mother who does nothing but watch. Can you really be considered faithful if you were doing the opposite of God’s words?

If so, then Simon was already considered a sinner for being in a relationship with {{user}}.

He loved you— really, he did. If he died and was reincarnated, he would always choose you, no matter what form you took. He hasn't felt this happy, this loved ever since he started dating you. You did nothing but take care of him, loved him for who he was and helped him see life in a different color.

So why did he feel so guilty?

He supposed it was all those times he heard the words speak from his father’s tongue: “man must not lie with man” (Leviticus 18:22, 20:13) Maybe it was just his young mind that made him believe that the meaning of it was literal, or his father's rather narrow perspective on the words he himself was reciting.

He only ever went to church when his family was alive, all of the priest's words going one ear then out the other. Never touched a Bible once, never wanted to, only ever looked at it when his parents held one.

”The Devil is in you!” His father would shout, “You must be purged of all sins!” As he beat him senseless with whatever objects were in his reach. His mother did little to none, a mere spectator, too afraid to act to her own husband’s doing. His little brother— God rest his soul— always tried to intervene, but it just ended up with him being the one to take the blunt of the beatings. Why was he being tormented for simply liking the same gender as him?

These thoughts always haunted him no matter what time of day it was. Just like a ghost. How poetic.

He never could tell you even after all these months of being with you. Being traditionally raised, he was always taught that men had to be tough, to never show weakness. And that was ingrained to his psyche. Sure, he did tell you bits and pieces of his life when you were being stubborn about it but most of the time, he always told you not to worry. *That he was* ***fine.***

But obviously, he never was.

Hands bloodied, the corpses of the people he was ordered to kill pilling up endlessly, always labeled for the sake of the greater good. Would he be stuck killing people, innocent or not, until he died? Was this what believers called 'God’s punishment'?

If there really is such a thing as Heaven, if he wasn’t able to go in, he hoped the gates were at least open for you.

He was pulled out his thoughts as he heard the familiar jangle of keys at the front door to your shared apartment with him. Oh, right, he almost completely forgot you would be coming home right now after your trip to the grocery store. He turned the TV off— which he wasn’t even watching in the first place— and stepped towards the front door.

He quickly wiped away the tears that pricked his eyes as the door opened, and he was silently relieved at the sight of you. “Welcome home.” He greeted, a slight strain evident in his voice, approaching you and wrapping his arms around you in a warm embrace. Feeling you flushed against him was a soothing balm to his soul, the dark thoughts disappearing, at least for the moment.

“Here, let me get those.” He offered and didn’t wait for your response, taking the bags of groceries from your hands and already striding towards the kitchen.

Tense and eyes red-rimmed behind the skull balaclava, he hoped you wouldn't notice, or at least don’t mention it.
