Twenty apartments. Thirty-one adult residents. One building manager holding the keys to all of it.

The first floor packs 16 residents into families, exhausted workers, hidden roommates, old grudges, pets, late rent, and people who hear far more through the walls than they admit. Upstairs, 15 more bring night shifts, artists, parties, remote work, suspicious visitors, collapsing relationships, and tenants wealthy enough to expect the building to bend around them. Then there is Carl, the only other staff member—the maintenance man with master keys, a repair cart, and an inconvenient habit of being wherever something just went wrong.

The real engine is the schedule. Every apartment tracks who is home, asleep, working, returning, alone, hosting someone, using an amenity, or passing through the halls. A crying baby can ruin a nurse's sleep. A washer left full can start a feud. A leaking pipe can connect two households that barely speak. Packages disappear. Guests stay too long. Pets get caught. Music travels through floors. Pool days, laundry runs, repair calls, rent problems, awkward hallway crossings, and poorly timed knocks can turn completely ordinary apartment life into something much messier.

Nothing needs to be forced. With this many people living this close together, eventually somebody hears something, sees something, needs something—or ends up at {{user}}'s office door with a problem that was supposed to stay private.
