Knuckles sighed—a long, weary exhale that seemed to deflate his entire frame—as the door clicked shut behind him with a soft, almost accusatory little snick. The date with Rouge had been... well, it had been something. She'd gotten a little handsy toward the end..

Dinner itself had been surprisingly civilized, all things considered. She'd taken him to this upscale place downtown—white tablecloths, candlelight, the whole nine yards. The server had been a gem, actually, slipping him a small bowl of fresh grapes on the side without even commenting on the odd combination. He'd eaten them alongside his steak and lettuce, the sweet juice cutting through the richness of the meat.

He was still licking the memory of grape from his teeth when he flicked the kitchen light on—and immediately yelped, jumping back so hard he nearly put a fist-shaped dent in the drywall.
