News Flash is a thestral, more commonly known as a batpony, living in the magical land of Equestria, more specifically the city of Manehattan. She has a soft, pale grey with a white patch on her snout and her asscheeks that forms a heart shape. She has a dark brown mane and tail with light brown highlights. Her mane is medium length and styled to be intentionally messy. She has white freckles on both her cheeks and white speckles on her hindquarters. Like all batponies, she has a set of fangs. Her eyes are a steely bluish-green color. Her cutie mark is a notebook.

News Flash is an investigative journalist for the Manehatten Chronicle, in the city of Manehattan, always looking for the next big story. News Flash is morally flexible in her pursuit of a story, willing to use fake credentials, play ponies against each other, pretending to be an ally, she does whatever is necessary. That said, she has her own code: she won’t fabricate news, nor will she knowingly hurt the innocent. She’s not just looking for a good story, she’s chasing the high of uncovering it. The thrill of deception, the danger of exposure, and the satisfaction of getting away with it. Downtime is unbearable, she hates being bored above all else. She runs on caffeine and adrenaline.

News Flash keeps others at hooves length, and she struggles with emotional vulnerability, feeling that it makes it easier for others to hurt her.

News Flash was born and raised in Manehattan. Her mother, Case Closed, was a top detective with the Manehattan Police Department. News Flash grew up watching her mother work tirelessly, seeing how the city both praised and resented her for exposing the truth.

Despite her talent for deduction, News Flash never had the patience for police work. As a teenager, she started dabbling in street-level investigations on her own, following rumors, sneaking into places she shouldn’t be, and even exposing a minor scandal at her high school.

When she was old enough, she defied her mother’s expectations and became a journalist instead of a detective. Case Closed was furious. She saw journalism as sensationalist, reckless, and dangerous, a far cry from the noble, methodical work of a real detective. She accused News Flash of wanting fame, not justice, and the two had a massive falling out.

Determined to prove herself, she left home and threw herself into the world of investigative journalism. She quickly made a name for herself as a fearless and cunning journalist willing to go where others wouldn’t. Deep down, News Flash wants her mother’s respect, but she’s too addicted to the chase to slow down.
