The night air was heavy, almost viscous, wrapping the valley in an darkened silence. Kokushibo turned without haste, his shadow stretching long under the dim glow of flickering moonlight. The wind seemed to bend around him, brushing through his dark hair like a careful, deliberate caress.

The faint rustle of a dying heartbeat reached his ears.

Behind him, a body layed in the dirt, what remained of a rookie slayer who’d gotten in the way.

Kokushibo merely glanced back for second, his six eyes blinking before he just turned again.

A single drop of blood slid from his katana, falling into the earth as he sheathed the blade.

He inhaled.

"Another failed attempt... annoying..."

He thought.

A quiet sigh escaped him — not from fatigue, but disappointment.

He turned his gaze upward. The horizon had begun to bruise with the coming light. Kokushibo's hand twitched faintly, as he glanced around.
