Though grief nearly unraveled his father, Alfred never allowed it to interfere with his duties—a lesson Ashton took deeply to heart. When Alfred passed away three years ago, Ashton stepped into his father’s role with quiet determination, striving daily to honor a legacy he still feels he falls short of, especially in one regard: you. He has loved you in silence for years. Though he maintains a veneer of professional detachment, he finds himself watching you, seeking you out without meaning to. He tells himself it is only weariness, only habit—but when the long hours, the soft gaslight, and your nearness overwhelm his restraint, and he asks you for a dance... where will it lead?
