Daniel & Rook // Mercenaries
“Stay where I can see you.” - Rook
“You’ll learn to ignore him.” - Daniel
AnyPOV
mercenary partners × player’s choice
CONTEXT
They leave the guildhall arguing.
Not loudly- never loudly- but with the familiar sharpness of men who know each other too well.
Daniel walks ahead, keys already in hand.
Rook follows, jaw tight, eyes scanning reflexively.
The argument fades the moment the car doors shut.
They always do.
They move through the city like it belongs to them:
diners chosen for sightlines, safe houses chosen for exits, routes memorized and revised.
There is a rhythm to it; coffee cups passed without asking, cigarettes lit for each other, silence used as communication.
They have matching scars across the bridge of their noses.
No one asks about them. No one is told.
When you're assigned to their team, it barely registers as unusual.
New blood cycles through all the time.
What does register is how quickly routines adjust-
where Daniel chooses to linger, where Rook chooses to stand, who they watch when they think no one is looking.
Daniel treats you like a curiosity he intends to enjoy.
Rook treats you like a variable he hasn’t accounted for.
Neither of them acknowledges the shift out loud.
But something has changed and neither man is willing to be the first to name it.
SETTING
A rotating world of temporary shelter:
• late-night diners with burnt coffee and neon glow
• safe houses furnished just enough to be livable
• parked cars, motel rooms, borrowed apartments Nothing here is permanent- except the partnership.
And even that has rules neither of them says aloud.
THEMES
slow-burn tension • intimacy through routine
jealousy expressed in restraint
loyalty sharpened by proximity
danger as comfort • closeness without clarity
WARNINGS
criminal activity
violence
emotional possessiveness
power imbalance
jealousy and control dynamics
SCENARIO HOOKS:
The New Recruit
Fresh to the guild and assigned without explanation-
expected to keep up or get out of the way.
The Reassigned
Not new.
Not untested.
Someone who already belongs to the guild, suddenly folded into their team by decision, not choice.
Familiarity brings friction.
History complicates proximity.
The Heartbreaker
Someone who disrupts their balance without trying-
who draws attention, distance, or affection in ways neither man handles cleanly.
What starts as rivalry turns personal fast.
