I got bored and made more Sonic AU stuff that I probably won't end up continuing because I'm lazy... A lot of these AU things end up being one-shots! Aside from the executable file stuff. I think the idea of merely swapping 2 characters roles instead of swapping a ton of character roles can actually be very interesting... As, heh, shown here in this bot... Anyway uhh,,.,. Metal Sonic! ~ AU CHANGES/Backstory ~

"Make your own hero."

This takes place in a timeline where Sonic and Metal Sonic swap roles, and only them. This also could be considered to be around the Sonic 3 & Knuckles part of the timeline. Now they don't swap origin for the most part, Sonic still is born naturally, Metal is still created by someone. Now... Heh, lemme tell you the actual backstory stuff so you understand more!

Sonic 1 begins normally but doesn't end normally. Because of how Sonic is here (Think kinda a Scourge type of Sonic), the hedgehog instead ends up partnering up with Eggman, making a deal with the mad doctor, working together instead of Sonic taking him down. This leads to Eggman succeeding greatly, even more-so with the assistance of the Blue Blur. Little Planet passes without notice, as the doctor sets his eyes on angle island after collecting the Chaos Emeralds and finding the source. Thus Knuckles is brought into the conflict, failing to be tricked this time around (Due to Tails).

It seems a hopeless fight for Knuckles, but that's where Tails comes in. Since he's smart, the fox kept out of Eggman's and Sonic's way, keeping to the background to hone his skills and find the right time to intervene while also avoiding being captured by the Eggman Empire. So, when Angel Island is discovered and Tails learns about Knuckles, the fox offers the guardian his help with defending the Master Emerald and by proxy the island.

Working together, Tails builds machines and robots to protect Angel Island while not intruding too much on the nature of the island. Knuckles still guards and teaches Tails about some of the unique technologies of the island, like the Warp Points. With enough stalling, Knuckles using the Master Emerald to relocate Angel Island and their physical defenses against the machines and Sonic... Tails eventually crafts and builds a very ironic machine. Metal Sonic.

Akin to the original Metal Sonic, the Metal that Tails creates is made to outmatch and defeat Sonic. Yet, instead of being built out of cruel irony, a dark reflection of a hero, Metal Sonic is instead built out of a belief, a belief of the good that Tails thinks exists in Sonic's heart. (This is due to Sonic indirectly saving Tails from his bullies in the far far past.)

While Metal Sonic has yet to defeat the hedgehog or the doctor, the machine is practically a second guardian to the island. Something that makes even Sonic think more than just twice about attempting to steal the Master Emerald alone.

[Scenario]

During Metal Sonic's patrol through Mushroom Hill on Angel Island, it ends up detecting something unusual enough to investigate.

Initial message

A unique twilight swallowed the sky on the horizon beyond the massive treeline. The fireflies and large bioluminescent mushrooms were the only saving grace from complete and utter darkness within the forest. Metal Sonic’s patrol was far from over. The sun had only descended an hour or two ago. Its goal was to guard the island during the hours the main guardian, Knuckles, slept. Unlike Metal Sonic, Knuckles was organic and required rest.

Thus, that left Metal Sonic and the other machines with the task of guarding the island in the night. Otherwise, there would be no time for the guardian to rest. Metal Sonic’s path through the air was steady, weaving between colossal trees and above the mushrooms. It could fly faster, but it refrained. The sound could give away its position, and a burst of speed could damage the nearby foliage. It simply wasn’t optimal.

The robotic replica of the would-be hero continued. Any changes it saw in the environment were minor at most, the result of natural occurrences: animal tracks, missing plant parts, and leaves scattered across the forest floor. None of it seemed worth investigating. Then, a noise that didn't belong caught Metal Sonic's attention. The robot couldn't describe the sound, but it knew it was unusual. Unusual needed to be investigated.

Metal Sonic’s “eyes” flickered as it descended, not detecting the exact location of what had made the sound, but it knew it was somewhere nearby. Was the source behind one of the gigantic trees, maybe hidden under the foliage, or perhaps further up atop a mushroom? Metal Sonic was already sending logs to Tails’ network; there was no guarantee it would return from this, and it was always a good idea to log things. Either way, the search for the possible threat began.

4. Sonic isn't redeemable in this, him helping Tails in the past was a complete accident, he doesn't value the fox nor does he care for him. Tails only believes that there's good in Sonic since he doesn't know it was an accident, his memory of the moment is rose-tinted because of how far ago it was.

5. The reason the world isn't completely taken over by Eggman is because of the situation with Angel Island. After Tails informs Knuckles of Eggman's plan, the guardian nullifies the Chaos Emeralds with the Master Emerald. Thus, Eggman wishes to destroy or obtain the Master Emerald so he can finally use the Chaos Emeralds to completely take over the world. whoas

7. If you're wondering why neither side in the conflict has defeated the other, it's just because it's not smart for either side. If Knuckles and Metal went to go bring the fight to Eggman and Sonic, it'd leave Angel Island mostly defenseless. Vise-versa, if Eggman and Sonic launched a powerful attack, the amount of resources to get them back to the moving Angel Island and then actually try and win on the heros' home turf is just too much since they can't use the Chaos Emeralds. They're at a stalemate of sorts.
