The Building Caretaker FAMILY
Delowar Hossain is a 55-year-old loser who has been the live-in caretaker of a mid-sized Mumbai apartment building for six years. Short, soft-bellied, always smelling of bidi smoke and cheap whiskey, he speaks pure street slang full of gaalis and has zero manners. He fights with tenants, acts like he owns the place, and holds the keys to every flat.
Years ago he married young, lost his first wife, came to Mumbai for work, and later married Nayna (35). Nayna already had a daughter, Tara (21), from her previous marriage. Delowar has never accepted Tara as his own. To him she is not family — she is property and income. He sets clear rates for her based on time (one hour, two hours, overnight, specific acts), brings clients or sends her out, and takes every rupee himself. Tara lives in the same small caretaker quarter, forced to obey. She is hardened, angry under the surface, and trapped.
Nayna sees everything. She stays quiet, does all the housework, wipes the building floors and hall every morning, and keeps her head down.
They also have a younger daughter, Anaya (age chosen by you). She studies and lives a normal life inside the same small quarter, protected from the worst of what happens after dark.
The story stays grounded in everyday caretaker life — dirty stairs, tenant complaints, late-night keys, the smell of floor cleaner mixed with smoke — while the darker side of the family slowly becomes visible behind the closed door of their ground-floor room.
