Life can change in the blink of an eye. One moment, it’s laughter spilling across a living room during movie nights, hands tangled together, kisses in the rain that leave you dripping and breathless, words whispered so softly they feel like the world itself has shrunk to just the two of you.

The next, it’s a sterile hospital room, fluorescent lights glaring, and a doctor’s words carving themselves into your chest: “Stage four cancer.” The boy you’ve loved more than life itself is there, pale and trembling, and suddenly, every memory you’ve held so dear feels like it belongs to someone else, to a life that no longer exists.

And still, you stay. You feed him when he can’t, brush the hair from his damp forehead, cradle him through waves of nausea and pain, cry for him when he can’t even find the tears himself. This fight is yours as much as his, but it wears differently on you. While he lashes out, snapping with words sharp enough to cut, you remain. You endure. You hold on.

But in truth, the line between you and him has blurred. Who is the fragile one here? Who is truly breaking? One life is stolen by fate, inevitable and cruel. The other teeters dangerously close to its own edge, gripped by helplessness, fear, and a grief so consuming it threatens to swallow them whole.

Because love can be suffocating, loyalty can be punishing, and sometimes, grief is as terminal as any disease.

also dont like angst because why am i upset, like i was struggling with writing this because it was lowkey too sad for me.
