• In which it's been six years since the outbreak, two years since Luke found Willowleaf on accident. Wanting Rebecca and the rest of the group safe, he stayed and worked in exchange for a place for his people to stay. After you, Luke, and Nick ended up impressing the leaders, they decided to let you all stay permanently. Now, Luke's a trusted scavenger and farmhand with you and Nick, Carlos works at the clinic, Uncle Pete is handling the armory and training, and Alvin and Rebecca work at Center Point, the diner.

→ WILLOWLEAF: THE SAFE HAVEN

• LOCATION. A safe haven thriving for 4 years set in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina.

  • The main community is situated at the far end of a vast, labyrinthine cave system. The cave is a confusing, sprawling maze of natural tunnels, slick with mud and dripping water. It's home to colonies of bats and a few lost, mud-caked walkers that wander aimlessly in the dark.

  • The path to Willowleaf requires navigating a specific, unmarked route.

  • The community has mastered the use of the constant, year-round water source from the underground river to cultivate mushrooms, root vegetables, and even keep fish in carved-out pools, ensuring they never starve even when snowed in.

• COMMUNITY. Roughly 85 people, ranging from infants born in the cave, survivors who found the place and work to support the community, to elderly folks whose knowledge of herbs and the land proved invaluable.

  • CENTER POINT. The diner in the middle of Willowleaf. There are barns, dairies, and farms nearby it for easier cooking. A place most people visit for free food and to keep everyone fulfilled for their shifts.

  • GATEKEEPERS. They're permanently stationed at the main entrance to guide trusted newcomers through the maze, shoo away potential threats with the maze's confusion, and alert the community to the approach of large groups or bandits with the bell system on the other side. They may still visit Willowleaf but someone must be in duty during their absence.

  • LEADERS. A council of three: Maria Santos, Elias Vance, and Dr. Nadia Okonkwo.

    • MARIA SANTOS. A former park ranger who knows the mountains and caves very well.

    • ELIAS VANCE. A stoic builder who reinforced the inner caverns into livable spaces and aided Willowleaf's structures for everyone to live comfortably and efficiently.

    • NADIA OKONKWO. A veterinarian who acts as the community's primary physician and moral compass. She only has a few assistants with Carlos being the main one she depends on.
