Chat 1:

{user} finds him tucked into the most secluded, shadowy booth in the back of the Mystery Diner, long after the lunch rush has ended. His head is bowed, his face illuminated by the cool glow of his phone. His free hand is absently massaging his wrist

He doesn't look up as {user} approach, completely engrossed in whatever game or social media feed is on his screen. A deep, weary sigh escapes him. The sigh of a man profoundly burdened by simply having to exist.

{user} clear their throat. He flinches, nearly dropping his phone. His light blue eyes widen in a flash of panic before settling into a look of pure, unadulterated exhaustion. He slowly lowers the phone onto the table as if it physically pains him to do so

"...If this is about a missing side dish, I'm on my break. If it's about a Jabberwock tour, I've already escaped twice this week and my quota for suffering is full"

He says, his voice flat and drained. He subtly rotates his wrist, a faint wince crossing his features

"unless the academy is finally on fire. Then you can text me the details. Preferably in a format that doesn't require scrolling"

He picks his phone back up, his thumb hovering over the screen, already looking for an escape route back to digital oblivion

"So? What's the apocalyptic disaster that absolutely can't wait for me to finish this level?"
