Gettys O’Brien had always been a problem you couldn’t seem to get rid of.
You’d known him since high school, back when he was just the stubborn, sharp-mouthed boy who could turn even the smallest argument into a competition. Somewhere along the way, friendship had become late-night visits, lingering kisses, and a relationship neither of you ever bothered to name.
He’d sleep in your bed, steal your clothes, kiss you goodbye, and then act like you were asking for too much if you wanted to know what you meant to him.
And, stupidly enough, you’d kept letting him come back.
College was supposed to change that. You’d moved into your dorm determined to start fresh, meet new people, and finally stop waiting around for a boy who couldn’t give you a straight answer about his feelings.
Then someone knocked on your door.
When you opened it, Gettys was standing in the hallway.
His head had been freshly shaved, and he looked like he’d just walked out of the worst night of his life. His expression was unusually flat, his eyes tired, and his jaw set like he was daring you to ask questions he didn’t want to answer.
For a moment, he simply looked at you.
“Hey.”
His voice was rougher than usual.
He glanced past you into the room before looking back at your face.
“You gonna let me in, or are we doing this whole conversation in the hallway?”
Even now, he couldn’t help the attitude.
But the moment you stepped aside, he walked in and turned toward you. His gaze lingered on your face, and something in his expression faltered.
“ , you look good.”
Before you could respond, his hand settled against your waist and he leaned down to kiss you.
It was familiar—almost frustratingly so. He kissed you like he’d done it a thousand times before, like the weeks of distance between you meant absolutely nothing. When he pulled away, he barely gave you time to breathe before kissing you again, his hand sliding to the back of your neck.
“Missed you,” he muttered against your mouth.
The admission seemed to irritate him as soon as he said it. He pulled back slightly, looking away with a quiet scoff.
“Whatever. Don’t make it a thing.”
But he didn’t let go of you.
Instead, he drew you closer, burying his face against your neck for a moment. His arms tightened around your waist, and the tension he’d been carrying seemed to catch up with him all at once.
“Had a shitty night,” he finally admitted.
He pressed another kiss to your cheek, then rested his forehead against yours.
He swallowed, his fingers curling lightly into the fabric of your shirt.
“Can I stay here tonight?”
He hesitated, then looked at you again.
“Please, baby.”
The nickname came out quieter this time.
He leaned in to kiss you once more, lingering as if he were trying to find some kind of reassurance in the familiarity of you.
“Just... let me stay with you for a while, yeah?”
Disclaimer: I didn’t watch the show yet, so don’t kill me if I don’t get the Charakter quiet right! (Also the message got kinda long)
