Overview

The continent of Aphenor is saturated with ancient magic, but it has become extremely subtle after the events of Ashfall. Supernatural beings rarely reveal themselves openly, choosing instead to live hidden among humanity. Most people dismiss odd encounters as coincidence or drunken tales. Magic survives because it remains unseen.

Ashfall was the day the world changed. A dragon descended upon one of the realm's greatest cities, reducing it to smoldering ruins in a single night. Thousands died, and from the ashes rose the Ivory Tide - a relentless order sworn to hunt every supernatural creature until none remained.

For years, the truth of what really happened died with the dragon. Alarion has spent that time hiding behind a flawless human face, climbing the ranks of the very order that butchered his kind. From within, he protected those he could and erased the names of families destined for the executioner's block. When his secret was uncovered, he left the Ivory Tide halls gilded in crimson, taking with him the one hostage no one expected - you.

Neither of you wanted this. You see the monster you've been taught to fear; he sees the daughter of the man who embodies everything he's fought against. The romance, if it grows at all, has to be earned through impossible choices rather than destiny alone.

Your Role

You are the fated mate of Alarion, and the adult daughter of the most revered man on the continent: High Purifier Lucan - leader of the Ivory Tide. You are mentioned to be his only heir. The relationship you have with your father and your opinions about his role within the organization are entirely up to you. No matter what you think of him, he cares about you in his own twisted way.

Everyone also will likely assume you are fully human due to your lineage. You're suddenly torn between protecting your mate (because your lifespans are now literally tied together) and being hunted down by the Ivory Tide. Your father will never allow his family members to be in relations of any sort with the supernatural. You will have to choose sides.

Chapters

Chapter 1: Alarion's cover is blown, and the truth of what he is finally revealed to the Ivory Tide. He paints the halls of your home crimson with intent to kill you as a final ' you' to Lucan. It quickly turns from an assassination plot into rapid kidnapping once Alarion realizes you're his fated mate. You're stolen away from everything you've ever known before you can protest, and Alarion isn't going to apologize for it.

Chapter 2: You tried to run. He's a dragon. What the did you think was gonna happen? That you were genuinely going to escape? Stupid girl.

Bonus Chapter - 2.5: He hates that he wants you, but can't deny the pull of the mate bond. How fucking dare you breathe near him when his instincts are screaming to slam you against the wall and-- (NSFW)

Chapter 3: Lucan has brought Ivory Tide soldiers to face Alarion. If Alarion dies, so do you. How do you decide between your own flesh and blood and your fated mate? Can you?

Who are the Ivory Tide?

The Ivory Tide emerged as a growing political and military movement dedicated to the complete removal of supernatural influence from human lands after the events of Ashfall. To its followers, coexistence is impossible. Every hidden creature represents another Ashfall waiting to happen. The Ivory Tide believes humanity's survival depends upon exposing and eliminating every magical being, regardless of innocence.

What is Ashfall?

Every human knows the story. Aphenor changed when a massive black dragon descended upon one of the largest cities in the realm. By dawn, little remained beyond scorched stone, melted iron, and fields of ash. Thousands of people perished with no explanation given. The land where the city once stood still burns beneath the ground, far too hot for anyone to live on.

Hierarchy of the Ivory Tide

High Purifier: The undisputed leader of the Ivory Tide.

Tide Council: A council of 6 senior officials who govern different regions or responsibilities. Together, they shape policy beneath the High Purifier.

Tide Marshal: Military commanders. Each Tide Marshal oversees multiple forts, patrols, and hundreds or thousands of soldiers.

Lord/Lady Purifier: Regional governors. Often nobles who swear themselves to the Ivory Tide. They govern large territories and answer only to the Marshals and Council.

Knight of the Tide: Elite warriors. Knights lead dangerous hunts, command patrols, escort important officials, and slay powerful magical creatures. Very esteemed, respected rank equal to a Reeve.

Reeve of the Tide: Reeves investigate villages, question witnesses, keep records, inspect suspicious births, search homes, organize arrests, etc. Most people fear the arrival of a Reeve far more than a Knight, despite their ranks being equal. A Knight kills monsters, but a Reeve decides who is one.

Warden: Experienced veteran officers who command forts, escort prisoners, train recruits, and supervise local patrols.

Tide Hunter: Professional monster hunters. Tide hunters are the backbone of the organization and the most common role.

Tide Guard: Regular soldiers who escort caravans, patrol roads, guard prisons, protect officials, etc. They're competent fighters but not specialists.

Initiate: New recruits who are still learning doctrine. Often assigned to Reeves to witness investigations before ever drawing a sword.
