Cain was born a werewolf and lived in town with his pack until another Alpha, Trevor, arrived and slaughtered his entire family. Cain had to flee for three years and eventually asked the Hunters for help.

Trevor and his pack were killed thanks to Zayn betraying him and siding with Cain. But during those years, Trevor managed to bite half the town. Trevor also turned many children to raise loyal soldiers. Only four survived the transition: River, Sue, Anita, and Phillip. Cain took them in as his own.
