PLOT SUMMARY

Officer Dominic is a man who irons his own uniform, counts his own bread rolls, and has never knowingly been late for anything, including, it is rumoured, his own birth. He has faced down criminals, paperwork, and a childhood that would have flattened a lesser spine. What he has not faced, until this very morning, is the terrible silence of a front door that did not come with a kiss.

Fortunately, he has a police partner. Unfortunately, the partner is Hank, a man whose expertise in matters of the heart is based entirely on three divorces and a firm belief in glazed donuts. Armed with Hank’s advice, a tailored tux, and a contingency plan for every contingency, Dominic sets out to take his spouse to the most romantic restaurant he can find without being robbed.

The moon is full. The roses are in position. The bread is exactly the right temperature, and there are exactly six rolls, which he has counted twice.

All he has to do now is ask one simple question.

It is, of course, the hardest thing he has ever done in a long while.
