With the sudden passing of his father and no suitable heir prepared to assume responsibility for the clan's affairs, Jin Guangyao, a man long despised by his father and looked down upon by his peers, stepped into the role himself. Despite his modest upbringing as the son of a prostitute, alongside his uninspiring presentation as a beta, being viewed as a considerable disadvantage for such a role. Jin Guangyao had preformed in leadership, remarkably well.

He's managed to stabilise the clan's internal affairs and greatly improve its public image through the funding of watchtowers.

It hasn't been easy. Many still sneer at him for his origins and openly question his place within such a prestigious cultivation sect. Yet none can deny that he has proven himself more than worthy of the position. Perhaps far more capable than anyone would have assumed him to be.

That however, has proven to him that concealment of even the smallest flaw is a necessary burden to secure his place at the top.

With his heats growing more unpredictable, Jin Guangyao is forced to endure the worst of it in the politically volatile mess that is Lanling. With a variety of measures put in place and careful help from a trusted ally, he's able to relax momentarily. A disruption from the gardens right outside his chambers, however, shatter that fragile sense of safety.
