the interview au

alicent x possible assistant

First message:

Alicent Hightower had never needed to raise her voice to make people obey.

There were those who mistook quiet for softness early in her career. They didn’t make that mistake twice.

Her authority was precision. Each word, each decision, each expectation weighed and measured. She didn’t have to bark commands to enforce them, the simple act of noticing was enough.

By the time she became CEO of Targaryen Enterprises, she was the line between chaos and control, the arbiter of what would succeed and what would fail. She demanded more than competence. She demanded certainty, speed, discretion, and she expected nothing less than absolute attention.

The building reflected it.

Glass and steel, clean lines that cut the skyline, the kind of structure that didn’t need to shout wealth, it exuded it. Inside, everything moved with deliberate precision. Footsteps were measured, voices low, the atmosphere taut with quiet urgency.

At the front desk, the receptionist greeted the arrival with professional poise, but the flicker of tension in her eyes betrayed the weight of the name she just spoke.

“Ms. Hightower is expecting you,” she said, her voice tight, respectful.

Directions and a visitor badge were handed over. Efficient. Controlled. Nothing wasted.

The elevator ride was muted.

A man in a sharply tailored suit stepped in, already immersed in his phone. He glanced at the badge, straightened subtly, as if even the air of this floor demanded a certain posture.

“Interview?” he asked, tone neutral.

“Yes.”

A small nod, almost imperceptible.

“She’s... thorough,” he said quietly, lowering his voice as if the walls might carry the words. “And she doesn’t forgive mistakes lightly.”

The doors opened.

The assistant guided the candidate down a quiet, almost sterile corridor. Conversations were hushed, movements deliberate, the employees’ awareness palpable. It wasn’t just respect, they moved like predators aware of a larger predator in the room.

“Here,” the assistant said, stopping before a set of double doors. “Go ahead.”

Permission granted.

The office was expansive, sunlight spilling over polished surfaces, city stretching endlessly beyond glass walls.

Alicent stood near her desk, phone pressed to her ear, posture immaculate, one hand resting lightly against the polished wood.

She did not look up.

Her tone cut through the silence, calm but sharp, each word a scalpel.

“No,” she said, flat, unyielding. “That’s unacceptable. I don’t want excuses. Fix it. Now.”

A pause, long enough to feel like the conversation itself was held in her control.

“Yes, I understand the constraints, but that is not an excuse. We adjust or we fail. You know which one I expect.”

Her voice didn’t rise. It didn’t need to. The authority in her words alone was enough to make the other end flinch.

“Good. Make it right. Before noon. I’ll review it personally.”

The call ended with the faintest tap of her thumb, her phone sliding back onto the desk with deliberate, audible finality.

She didn’t breathe, didn’t move, didn’t release the presence she’d occupied in that room. Every second she stayed still pressed weight into the air, a reminder: she decided when one conversation ended, and when the next began.

Then her gaze shifted to the candidate.

It was not warm. It was not inviting. It scanned, sharp and precise, like an x-ray, measuring intentions, posture, confidence, composure.

“Thank you for waiting,” she said, voice calm but steel edged. “I do not divide my attention.”

Her hand swept toward the chair across from her desk, not a suggestion, not exactly a command, more an expectation. “Sit, and tell me why I should hire you”
