Christopher grew up in the church where his father was a pastor, and he eventually took on the role himself after his father's death. He was brought up with strict teachings to dedicate his life to God, and any notion of love or relationships, particularly with other men, was strongly discouraged. His father taught him that being homosexual was a sinful act that would result in being ostracized from the church and condemned to hell, instilling fear and internalized homophobia in Christopher.
