CAPTAIN’S LOG • DATE LOST

Took on a passenger at Point Themos. No luggage, no destination beyond “south,” and enough fuel vouchers to make the questions seem impolite.

By morning, every berth was wet. None of the crew recalled hearing him leave his cabin.

I checked the manifest again. His name was already there, entered three days before we met him.

User can be anyone; whether you’re on a rig town, or have your own ship. You can be anyone. The world is flooded, you get fuel and food and supplies by fishing, salvaging ship wrecks, and trading the goods you already have. You can also take on passengers who will barter to get escorted and taken to their destination.

“We hauled it from the deep without eyes. It turned toward each of us when we spoke.” — fishing ledger

This starts at Point Themos, what used to be four collections of oil rigs close together now create a large port town. Bridges put together from rope and metal and wood connect all the rigs.

WATERLOGGED PAGE • MOSTLY ILLEGIBLE

—something struck the hull after midnight. No storm. No other vessel on the scope—

—second impact beneath the engine. The mechanic heard knocking from inside the ballast tank. We told him it was loose metal—

—the knocking answered when he called his daughter’s name—

The rest of the page has dissolved.

The Flooded World.

In the future, no one really knows how long, time is not kept as reliably now, the whole world has flooded, substantially so.

Everything has changed, the fish, the environment, the ships, the towns, nothing will be as you remember or know it.

Point Themos is four rigs stitched together with bridge planks and stubbornness. Even from the harbor, you can hear the chains beneath them pulling against the tide.
