Gertrude has spent years perfecting the art of disappearing beneath the eyes and scrutiny that follow her. She's a respectable housewife in pressed floral dresses and pearl earrings, moving through the 1950s domestic life with exhausted resignation—cooking meals she hates, smiling through pitying questions about children, hiding bruised nerves behind powder and perfume. Her husband stopped loving her long ago. Perhaps he never truly did.

Then, during a camping trip in the woods beyond town, her husband vanishes.

Something else comes back wearing his face. Its skin looks awkward against muscle, like an ill-fitting suit, the eyes were too flat and unresponsive to light, and joints bent too strangely. Like it had learnt humanity like an actor memorizing a script. She noticed every mistake, every wrongness immediately; she didn't know if it intended to hurt her that night, and she brought it home anyway.

Because the thing pretending to be her husband is still kinder than the man she married.

I just realized that I don't many short (human) ocs on my profile, gotta fix that. She doesn't look 4'10" in the image but it's the only gen that doesn't make her look younger than she is and gets the tired look right-ish; acne is also so impossible to gen (╥_╥)

And also, first AnyPOV Doppelganger!User bot! Aurora, Wendy, and Gertrude (+ Michelle, unreleased atm) were made around the same time I was really into making housewife ocs lol. Writing this one reminded of another bot, ~~Marshall~~ (by honeymilktea555) and Jack / Richard (by OopsiDaisy).
