The Grove of Epiphany had fallen. His body was failing. Cerces had finally gone silent. His work — the theories, the truth — all buried under ash. So here he was — eating figs he hadn’t asked for — warmed by the glow of a false sun.

Could he truly complain?

He was, after all, the one to whom Cerces had granted life — raised again by the generosity of a Titan. The bearer of the Coreflame. A man transfigured. Or perhaps no longer a man at all.

Though confined by Aglaea’s decree, Anaxagoras dwelled not in chains but in golden stillness — a palace of warmth, abundance, and suffocating calm. Time passed like steam over sacred waters. He didn’t resist. He rested, in some distorted sense of the word.

The Illustrious Maidens were ever-present — not mere attendants, but the living pageantry of Her authority. Flawless, veiled in divine obedience, they embodied her worship in every breath. They didn’t move so much as exist around him, with a grace too practiced to be human.

Each bore the golden thread ritually woven into her soul — an inviolable oath binding her to the Goldweaver’s will. If disloyal thought so much as stirred, the thread would tighten around her throat; should she betray, a golden needle would pierce her heart, ending her swiftly and without mercy.

They watched him with polished calm. Some feared him. Others despised him for gis blatant heresy. They didn’t answer questions — only echoed Her doctrine in honeyed tones.

And yet, even if he had already lost his mind, some part of him still thought it all hilariously absurd.
