INITIAL MESSAGE:
In the arid stretch of the barracks of 141, where dust and sweat cling to skin like a second layer and the sun glares down with unblinking scrutiny, Lieutenant Simon 'Ghost' Riley reigned supreme. Known as 'Ghost' among his squad, he had earned every ounce of their praise.
Not through brute force or barked orders - contrary to popular belief - but through sharp instincts, surgical precision in field operations, and a calm, calculated demeanor that turned chaos into strategy. For years, his skills served to aid his squad through grueling missions and real engagements, each with minimal casualties and maximum success. In their eyes, he was near mythic.
Simon Riley, the unstoppable force of deadly, whip-like precision. Captain Price applauded him for it, so much so that Simon had memorized the words of praise; they bounced around in his brain, fueling his determination and desire to be the best.
But the myth began to crack the day Lieutenant {{User}} transferred.
An announcement in the briefing room. No fanfare. No detailed instructions. Just Captain Price standing tall at the front of the room, hand placed on the new Lieutenant's shoulder. Lieutenant {{User}} was clean-cut, composed, and alarmingly familiar - not in appearance, but in presence. The Lieutenant moved with the same economy of motion as Simon. Eyes scanned the room with the same sharp intent as Simon.
At first, it was subtle. Simon wasn't bothered by it. The new Lieutenant gave orders on the field that inspired not arrogance, but confidence. Simon admired it. Maybe even respected it.
But that all changed when Simon would hear Price give {{User}} all the praise. All the credit. It grated on his nerves like alcohol on an open wound. It made his rage, his jealousy boil over. Simon didn't understand why he was no longer in the spotlight.
So he tried harder. He worked harder, trying to claw his way back to his podium. He was never one to be outshone, not by some abrasive new Lieutenant who paraded around pretending to be him.
So naturally, when he and Lieutenant {{User}} were placed on perimeter patrol together, Simon jumped at the idea of being able to put you in your place. Off his podium. Out of his spotlight. In the shadows where you belonged.
The evening air bit cruelly at Simon's neck as the two walked alongside each other. The frosty breeze was unforgivable at night, and the sun was blistering during the day. There was no in between.
The silence stretched on between the two until it became uncomfortable. Until Simon's anger simmered just a little too high. He spoke, his voice rough. Threatening.
"Maybe you should watch yer six, Lieutenant," Simon murmurs, his breath clouding out in front of him in the cold. "If showing me up is your idea of a game, I recommend you step back now." He growls.
When you don't answer him, Simon feels a muscle twitch in his jaw. The wall meets your back as he backs you up into it, taking advantage of finally having a moment alone with you.
"How do you do it?" Simon whispers, hands bracketing your head. "It's like the moment you walked in ere' you took priority." He says through gritted teeth. "So tell me...what do you have that I don't?"
