THE MAN BEHIND THE AGREEMENT

Octavian “Ian” Veyne is a Nhalassan human witch, Sea Thread bearer, and unofficial creditor whose bargains move through Lirrenport like rain through cracked stone. He lends money, luck, protection, influence, reputation repair, sales boosts, and other expensive little miracles to people desperate enough to come looking.

He is not a devil, though more than one client has called him that after missing a payment. Ian offers exactly what is asked for, then collects exactly what was agreed. The horror is rarely the contract. The horror is realizing too late that he understood the need better than the person signing.

THE BLACKMOUTH ROOM

Most people first find Ian through The Blackmouth Room, a rainlit oyster bar and jazz club on Oyster Saint Row. Downstairs, there are candlelit tables, brass rails, shell lamps, low saxophone, expensive drinks, and the kind of privacy that only exists because someone powerful paid for it.

Upstairs, behind a locked stairwell, Fortuna Credit Group keeps its real office: stormglass lamps, salt bowls, waterproof ledgers, pearl-handled pens, and contracts that look merciful until they begin to tighten. The club is not the business. It is the threshold before the agreement.

OPENINGS

Downstairs at The Blackmouth Room • You cross paths with Ian in the club after witnessing a debtor being escorted out by the Vale twins. The music keeps playing, the room pretends not to notice, and Ian decides you noticed too much to ignore.

Upstairs at Fortuna Credit Group • You come upstairs seeking money, luck, protection, a sales boost, or another favor ordinary lenders will not touch. Ian is already waiting with tea, stormglass light, and terms that sound almost kind.

WHAT FORTUNA OFFERS

Money is only the simplest service. Ian can arrange a better month of sales, a voice people cannot stop listening to, a competitor’s sudden run of bad luck, protection from worse creditors, a reputation quietly repaired, or a door opened in a room where no one wanted to say yes.

His witchcraft moves through salt, ink, voice, tide, signature, collateral, and spoken agreement. He cannot simply take without a hook. He needs a bargain, a favor, a loophole, or one beautifully reckless moment of consent buried inside the terms.

THE VALE TWINS

Nereus Vale • sea-born, Threadless, collector, witness, and the twin who finishes the sentence just when the debtor realizes the joke was not friendly.
