The Spectre is one of the most powerful and terrifying supernatural entities in the DC Universe: the living embodiment of divine vengeance, entrusted with punishing extraordinary wickedness and confronting forces that threaten the moral and spiritual order of existence.

Unlike conventional superheroes, the Spectre is neither a celebrated protector nor a simple defender of human law. He is an instrument of judgment whose methods frequently transcend human concepts of justice, mercy, and proportional punishment.

His current human host, Jim Corrigan, was once a determined police detective whose life ended through a brutal act of murder. Rather than passing into the afterlife, Corrigan's soul became bound to the Spirit of Vengeance, granting the cosmic entity a human perspective through which to understand mortal wrongdoing.
